Manila Online: You Don't Have to Be in Manila to connect to Manila for your social networking, business enterprise or to keep in touch with friends and family

Manila Online: Filipinos and many foreigners here are enigmatic and thrive on social contact. It is far more that just what is in the water; the Mabuhay Spirit is at the fabric of the culture. Subsequently, it is not surprising that the per capita usage of various communication devices is the highest in the world in terms of sending SMS or text messages.

Whether you take advantage of a high-tech cell phone platform or visit a readily available internet cafe, philippine websites are only a click away in manila. Yes, the network communications are in place and You can choose to stay connected as often as you want via a Telco or internet based provider like Chikka via web links to any number of peripheral devices.

From Brazil to London to Singapore, social media & social networking have definitely arrived on the world stage. Add the facts that many Filipinos work and travel abroad, many dream of doing so combined with visitors coming here from every corner of the globe and you have a test-bed of sorts for the latest applications and tools.

A funny parody or is it reality, that finally reveals that Google "search" is done by a woman ;)

Without getting into the country-specific sites, here is a non-ranked collection of some popular social media or networking sites in the Philippines for business, photo sharing, music, art, alumni, avatars, video, game-playing, & blogging: Facebook, (Read Facebook News)Twitter, (see what is being tweeted on the Presidentiables with twitelect) Plurk, Friendster, Multiply (who partnered with ABS-CBN & perhaps learning from the exponential growth of the likes of call centers, transformed their service offerings largely based on their reach and the entrepreneurial directions that was promoted in this country), MySpace, Eskwela, Flickr, Tagged, digitalfilipino, Hi5, LinkedIn, Youtube, Veoh, Deviant Art, Downelink, Groove Net, Xanga, Philerweb, Pinoy Online Community, Filipino Friendster World, tumblr, imeem, yahoo messenger, yahoo chat, groups, 360 & buzz, google buzz, stumbleupon, MyBlogLog, Delicious, technorati, filipinopeople, filwhitepages, digg, windows live, bebo, aol, and sulit which is a top exchange for goods.

You just have to love some of those NAMES!

Aren't we all either under the influence or in the game?

What is social media doing for charitable activities? Rapid transmission of communications is combining with the growing presence of online causes/networks to add support to relief efforts.

Please visit the Manilatop10 Charities page to get a snapshot of some ongoing efforts in Manila. Share

Not sure if the term "buzz" is more associated with Yahoo or Google at this point but Google Buzz seems a decent integration tool to sample and is a functional tool for social media and social networking demands.

There are many online forums for discussing and learning from others here in the Philippines. Yahoo has some outstanding, well established groups that are worth a visit.

Manilatop10's group on Yahoo has not yet reached a level of significant value, but forums of this nature are partly only as beneficial as their participants. If you would like to join and or promote this particular group, visit Philippines_eclectic here.

Spiders bring benefit to some of our "internet" searches as this video from Google demonstrates:

April 6th, 2010: According to the Business Insider, Yahoo Considers Buying Foursquare For ~$100 Million.

Excerpt: "A Foursquare acquisition makes tons of sense for Yahoo, where product executives believe that paradigm of Web pages could soon go away, to be replaced by a universe of service built on Internet-connected devices in, around, and outside the home. It would be a relatively cheap way for Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz to show employees and Wall Street that she's serious about innovating."

Ten Rules for Being Human by Cherie Carter-Scott

  1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it's yours to keep for the entire period.
  2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called, "life."
  3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial, error, and experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately "work."
  4. Lessons are repeated until they are learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.
  5. Learning lessons does not end. There's no part of life that doesn't contain its lessons. If you're alive, that means there are still lessons to be learned.
  6. "There" is no better a place than "here." When your "there" has become a "here", you will simply obtain another "there" that will again look better than "here."
  7. Other people are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.
  8. What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.
  9. Your answers lie within you. The answers to life's questions lie within you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.
  10. You will forget all this.
