Manila Education: Manila offers many DEGREES of Education

Manila Education: One of the amazing daily occurrences in Manila is seeing students of all ages on their way to school at 0-dark thirty. This is attributable to the fact that many schools have separate morning and afternoon schedules, which clearly, must be demanding on the teachers.

While Tagalog is widely spoken in Manila, because many visit from the Provinces, other dialects are useful to learn. This brief report can be of help:

Bacolod, Philippines, Western Visayas. Ilonggo or Hiligaynon Language Phrases & Links.

On foot, by motorbike, or jeepney, groups of students earnestly embark on their pursuit of an education. It is a remarkable contrast and an unequivocal sign of family support and dedication to see the students effervescing in attitude and flashing white smiles while often sporting immaculately clean white-shirts regardless of their economic status.

Filipino’s definitely take pride in their educational pursuits, though many are limited or unable to actively pursue this path to success.

Here is a collection of a few Education related reports on Allvoices:

The University of Manila is within the heart of the city, close to City Hall and historical sites. It is one of the reputable schools to achieve a manila education.

While I was impressed to see a mechanized waste management truck on the street behind the university, I wondered why the trash was allowed to accumulate within the campus grounds when there is a strong push by the youth in Manila to move toward a more eco-friendly & Green city. Perhaps this was cleaned up on Earth Day?

Someone told me that there are only two universities in the Philippines; UP and the rest or was it San Beda, UST, Ateneo or De La Salle University & the rest ;)
I was offered work here in the Philippines as an IELTS or International English Language Testing System Interviewer & I understand the importance, the cost and gravitas of such a prerequisite for working abroad.

Although studies show that an infants vocabulary is limited by number regardless of the number of languages spoken in the home, the Filipino's bilingual platform does indeed lend itself to teaching English abroad and especially to other Asian Cultures where, through no fault of their own, perhaps the enunciations of their own native tongue make the speaking of English more difficult to master.

Many students & professionals come to the Philippines to study English which provides an opportunity for YOU to determine if this is an area that can be comfortable and prosperous.

If YOU are considering going abroad to teach, Japan is one country to consider. Visit Kevin & Ikumi's resourceful site to help you determine if it's right for you and how to get sponsored and certified.

Quite a while back, I went to meet a Korean entrepreneur in Alabang who was transitioning from hosting & housing foreign students to an online teaching focus using Skype.

Here is an outside link that promotes the use of Skype and an Ebook with lessons to prepare you to Teach Online and all for under $50. It is up to you to determine if you learn well from such resources or want to approach it another way.

With nursing curriculums now 5 years in length, it is even more important to ensure a successful graduation. While competition is fierce & there are many places both online and offline to choose from, like Rachell Allen, e-Nurselink lists the Top Ten Review Centers in the Philippines

I found the vocabulary questions sufficiently challenging to spark interest and readily accumulated 760 grains of rice before wanting to post the information here.

I'll be sure to return and I think it will be helpful for those wanting to not only test their knowledge, but also to learn, regardless if you are a college student or a young pocket-book reader with big aspirations!

I'm up to 1190 grains as the photo above shows :)

"FreeRice is a non-profit website run by the United Nations World Food Program. Our partner is the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.

FreeRice has two goals:

Provide education to everyone for free.Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free. This is made possible by the generosity of the sponsors who advertise on this site.

Whether you are CEO of a large corporation or a street child in a poor country, improving your education can improve your life. It is a great investment in yourself.

Perhaps even greater is the investment your donated rice makes in hungry human beings, enabling them to function and be productive. Somewhere in the world, a person is eating rice that you helped provide. Thank you."

6/6/2010 Update: I have a decent Ebook reader that I will share here soon. Still going through the evaluation process and will add an ebook there as well. Any educational tools that make the transition to reading and learning online a more seamless experience are a boon :)

Mark and his wife live in Baseco, Manila. Please contact him if you are interested in sponsoring a child's education. He is a very engaged man and will definitely put your support to direct good usage and create a rewarding result!

Here is a blog entry from Mark of how easy it could be for you to make a difference: Home from School.

Are you familiar with Flocabulary?

Hop over to this brief article that I wrote that includes a video and link to their site.

Education: Increasing your vocabulary and knowledge with Flocabulary.

Here is a decent site that provides some interesting ways to learn another language whether a student or not. One of the games is Hangman. A Famous Quote in the Filipino section is

"my life is nothing without you"

and after playing the game, the Tagalog translation is

"walang kwenta ang buhay ko kung wala ka"

Is it right?

Go here to create your own in various languages or join in another way!
